Saint Gabriel the archangel walks along the banks of a river, carrying his catch. The heavenly messenger represents a pure spirit created by God. In Christian art, the fish is a symbol of water and baptism. It also represents saints who converted many to Christianity, in reference to Jesus' promise to Peter – "I will make you fishers of men." Edgar Aguirre Gómez masterfully replicates the works found in Cuzco's colonial convents and churches with his elegant and reverent oil paintings.
